
Every Saturday The Flea Markets are held at the Mackay Showgrounds and on Sundays the City Market is held in Victoria St. in the City Centre. Walkers Markets are open Saturday and Sunday at Harbour Rd. throughout the year and Paxtons River St. Markets are held every second Sunday in the month, so Mackay is the place for bargains on the weekends. |
Hinterland.Take a drive out West of the City on the way to Eungella National Park and you arrive at Finch Hatton Gorge. During the hot summer months this area is a favourite of the locals. A forest walk brings you to two waterfalls. Araluen and Wheels of Fire are a couple of spots where you can cool down and take a dip in the cool waters. Further to the west ,The Eungella National Park provides walking trails and a Sky Window Lookout that provides views for miles. Platypus can be seen early morning and late afternoon at Broken River on occasions. |

SARINA BEACH has a long sandy beach and ample facilities including Surf Lifesaving Club, Boat Ramp, Beachfront Store, Picnic Area and Lookout offering spectacular views. SALONIKA BEACH is popular for locals and holiday makers.Sea Eagles Resort at the southern end has a licensed restaurant. GRASSTREE BEACH is home of a thriving fishing and prawn industry, with varieties available at the fresh local seafood outlet. ARMSTRONG BEACH is also popular for it's prawning and fishing. There is a a convenience store and picnic area and Armstrong Beach Caravan Park. CAMPWIN BEACH is a quiet beach with boat launching facilities. At the northern end of the beach lies Coral Point,the entrance to Castrades Inlet where fishing trawlers and runabouts are moored and launched. |

SARINA RANGE is approximately 14 klms. south west of Sarina. Part of the Great Divide, The Sarina- Koumala Ranges have Bartons Lookout that provides visitors with excellent views over the surrounding countryside. ALLIGATOR CREEK is one of many tidal watercourses in the area and hosts the Moana and Alligator Creek Caravan Parks. BBQ and camping facilities and a seafood outlet are available and the Alligator Creek Park has a swimming pool and on-site store. CAPE PALMERSTON National Park lies in the SE. Region of the Shire and is Accessible by 4 WD only. Isolated beaches and native wildlife make this area a photographers dream. MIDDLE CREEK DAM is to the West of Sarina and a picturesque drive out to the dam is well worth while for a spot of fishing, waterskiing or just a nice family picnic. The dam provides most of the town's water supply. |
